City of Honolulu ranked top eco-city in U.S., but…
// May 26th, 2010 // Hawai'i
I love my home, Hawaii unconditionally. I’m protective of her as I would any member of my family, however like I evaluate myself, I’m brutally honest with her too. So, I was very pleased to learn that Mercer ranked the city of Honolulu as the top ranked eco-city in the United States and only second to Vienna in the world. And, 31st city in the world with the highest quality of life.

While the ranking is a proud accomplishment for the community, reality sunk in when I read this Honolulu Advertiser headline: “Oahu thefts up 10%; rapes also up, as overall crime rises 4.6%“. I am appreciative of a study that upholds some of the reasons why I love my Hawaii, but this headline reminds me of how much we need to work on at home. I remain hopeful.

Me too, doll, me too! So proud but so angry at the same time. Like you say, it's just like kids.
We all remain hopeful that our government will pay more attention to the true needs of our community rather than that of their own notoriety. Don't let me start talking about people currently in office.
I love our island home and all of our little quirks, but the crime rate and overpopulation is another matter!
